KEW GARDENS, NY — Superintendent Dr. Hoa Tu was among five distinguished honorees celebrated at this year’s Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Celebration, hosted by Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr., on Thursday, May 28, from 5–8 p.m. at the Helen Marshall Cultural Center at Queens Borough Hall in Kew Gardens.

The annual celebration brought together community leaders, residents, and elected officials for an evening recognizing the rich cultural contributions and civic leadership of the AAPI community. The event featured cultural performances, authentic cuisine, and special honors for local leaders who have made meaningful impacts throughout Queens.

Superintendent Hoa Tu was recognized for her thirty years in Education, Leadership, dedication to public service and commitment to strengthening the community through education and civic engagement.

Other notable honorees included:

Mary Archana Fernandez, Director of Family Support Services at the South Asian Council for Social Services (SACSS)

Dian Song Yu, Executive Director of the Flushing Business Improvement District (BID)

Hyun Tak Lee, President of the Korean American Association of Queens

Rowena Sahulee, Founder of Meaningful Experiences

The celebration highlighted the diversity, resilience, and achievements of the borough’s AAPI communities.

Organizers praised the honorees for their leadership and continued dedication to uplifting and empowering residents across Queens.
