Congratulations to John Bowne High School’s Bezos Scholars!
QUEENS, NY — John Bowne High School is proud to celebrate an extraordinary achievement by two of our own. Student Scholar Sally Awuku and Educator Scholar Felicia Bifulco have been selected as 2025 Bezos Scholars, a prestigious national honor recognizing leadership, academic excellence, and a commitment to community impact.
Sally and Ms. Bifulco are not only exceptional representatives of John Bowne High School, but they also stand out across the entire city—as the only recipients from New York City Public Schools selected for this year’s program.
The Bezos Scholars Program selects just 12 student-educator pairs from across the United States each year. Scholars are chosen for their academic accomplishments, leadership potential, and passion for creating positive change in their communities. As part of the program, scholars engage in a year-long leadership development experience and launch community change projects that address pressing local issues.
“This honor reflects their dedication, talent, and spirit of excellence” said Superintendent Dr. Hoa Tu. “We are incredibly proud of Sally and Ms. Bifulco, and we look forward to the lasting impact they will make through this opportunity.”
